Position Summary


Digital Engineering is offering an Automation Manufacturing Summer Co-op position to provide an opportunity for students wishing to gain insight and experience in the manufacturing of Automation products and systems.


The Automation Manufacturing intern will participate in the manufacturing, of safe and reliable hardware based automation products and systems. This summer co-op position requires a minimum of 37.5 hours each week, for 15 weeks at a rate of $18.00/hour. This position reports directly to the Manager of Manufacturing of Digital Engineering, Inc., but will also report to specific project managers as required.


Work will require a high degree of proficiency with AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office Suite of productivity applications including Word and Excel. The manufacturing portion of this job also requires a strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code. This position requires frequent self-directed work and the ability to prioritize tasks and projects. The employee must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in an environment with rapidly changing technical and business requirements, while maintaining enthusiasm and sound judgment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain system drawings using AutoCAD from Autodesk to the standards of Digital Engineering, Inc. and our clients
  • Adhere to change management systems and follow processes and procedures for the design, assembly and testing of control panels to meet CSA standards as identified by Digital Engineering, Inc.
  • Provide progress reports and project updates to managers/supervisors and customers
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, training documentation, reports, and other written communications
  • Maintain and securely-manage confidential data for internal and external customers
  • Assist in the assembly of automation control panels and enclosures
  • Perform assembly and bench testing of various devices to test/prove functionality, including soldering when required
  • Participate in the execution of Factory Acceptance Testing

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a University or College program related to electrical, electronic or instrumentation technology
  • Previous related work experience is a definite asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, for the creation and maintenance of system drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and CSA Standards for building industrial control panels
  • Familiar with principles of electrical measurement and basic electrical troubleshooting
  • Familiar with OHSA and general safety best practices
  • Familiar with project management and document control processes
  • Proficient with a variety of manufacturing tools, and electrical test equipment

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work environments include indoor office and manufacturing shop
  • Work may require exposure to hazardous conditions (i.e. high noise, Arc Flash areas), appropriate training and personal protective equipment will be provided
  • Work requires physical strength and agility to safely perform all essential job functions (applicant should be able to lift 25kgs from the floor to waist height)
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee maybe required to sit or stand for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
