The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice President, Membership & Events, the Membership and Business Development Officer plays a key role in supporting the growth, engagement, and overall experience of CNA’s membership. This role manages the full membership lifecycle from applications and onboarding to renewals, dues administration, and ongoing member support while ensuring accurate and reliable member data.
You will also contribute to business development efforts by identifying prospective members, supporting outreach initiatives, and helping refine CNA’s value proposition. Working closely with colleagues across the organization, you will support member communications, events, and engagement activities, and help strengthen the overall member experience through feedback and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
As the successful candidate you will be responsible for:
Membership Management & Support
• Administer the full membership application and onboarding process in alignment with the ee Association’s by‑law and Membership Policy.
• Lead the annual membership renewal cycle and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date member records in the CRM.
• Generate membership reports, track trends, and maintain the official member register.
• Manage membership dues in coordination with Accounts Payable and Corporate Services.
• Support membership suspensions and terminations in accordance with policy.
• Maintain and update the member section of the Association’s website.
Business Development & Member Engagement
• Support recruitment of new members through targeted outreach informed by sector mapping and membership data.
• Maintain a mapping of the Canadian and North American nuclear sectors to identify prospective members.
• Contribute to refining and communicating the Association’s value proposition to members and prospects.
• Respond to member inquiries and gather feedback through surveys and engagement activities; prepare summaries for senior leadership.
• Assist in developing strategies and materials to engage and retain members, working closely with senior staff.
• Support periodic reviews of membership structure and dues, including coordination with consultants and internal stakeholders.
• Assist in identifying partnership opportunities and supporting affiliate or collaborative agreements.
•Contribute to member communications (newsletters, updates, webinars) in collaboration with the communications team.
•Support membership councils and new initiatives aimed at growing and engaging the membership base.
•Assist the Events team with member‑facing functions, including speaker coordination and related logistics.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
· University degree or college diploma preferably in business administration, public relations, marketing, event planning or related field
· Minimum 3-5 years’ experience providing front-line support to clients, guests, and/or members providing seamless and professional customer service support to members and prospective members, including guidance on membership benefits, billing, etc.
· Proven experience in program coordination and membership relations support in a non-profit or trade advocacy association
· Experience working with a CRM or database
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), social media and email marketing tools, various web meeting/presentation applications, and a basic understanding of website content management systems (WordPress)
· Pro-active self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team environment, with equal ease and minimal supervision
· Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
· A strong multitasker with demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities
· Strong project management skills
· Highly organized and detail-oriented
· Works well under pressure
· Excellent collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
· Superior customer service delivery and interpersonal skills
· Ability to remain calm when dealing with difficult people or situations.
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of member and organization information
The following attributes are considered an asset:
· Working knowledge of French
· Previous experience with member associations or similar roles
Working Conditions:
· The successful candidate is expected to work/live in Ottawa and/or the surrounding area.
· Work is in a comfortable office and home office environment.
· The successful candidate is expected to work a minimum of two days per week in the CNA’s Ottawa office. This may change in the future to more than two days per week.
· May be expected to travel outside the Ottawa area on a regular basis to attend meetings with other institutions, conferences, or training venues.
· During travel, working conditions will be restricted to safe and comfortable offices and/or tradeshow/conference venues. Travel would generally be one week or less to attend conferences or trainings, or to support project deliverables.
· Some local, provincial, national, or international travel between the CNA’s client sites or stakeholders may be required.
