Work Environment: CivicAction’s work is a hybrid workplace that combines both in-

office and remote work. CivicAction’s physical offices are in downtown Toronto and technology will be provided to support both in-office and remote work. This position may involve some evening and weekend work.

Position Purpose  

The Housing Policy Analyst will support CivicAction’s work to advance housing affordability solutions across the GTHA. This role is ideal for a post-secondary student interested in policy, research, community-building, and urban issues. The intern will help with research, event and meeting planning and logistics, outreach, and communications while learning how multi-sector partners work together to tackle complex housing challenges.

This is a hands-on opportunity to develop practical skills, work closely with experienced staff, and contribute to meaningful systemic change projects that support more affordable, inclusive, and vibrant communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with research on relevant housing and GTHA-related topics, collecting relevant data, articles, and insights.
  • Support the organization and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Help draft materials such as brief summaries, backgrounders, presentations, and other project documents.
  • Assist in planning partner convenings and meetings, including scheduling, preparing materials, and helping with logistics.
  • Support event tasks such as venue coordination, equipment setup, catering, registration, and more.
  • Help develop and manage invitation lists to ensure diverse and relevant participation.
  • Take detailed meeting notes and produce clear, concise summaries.
  • Assist in creating clear, accessible content for partners and the public.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Education, Certification and Experience:

Currently enrolled in a related post-secondary program (e.g. Political Science, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Urban Studies, Planning, or related).

 

Demonstrated Skills and Behaviours:

  • Experience in project or event coordination, research, and/or policy support, preferably within a non-profit or public policy environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with project planning, logistics, partnerships, collaboration, and/or coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise documents and reports.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis, and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience with event management tools or CRM systems is a plus.
  • A passion for CivicAction’s mission and a commitment to making the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area more affordable, inclusive, and prosperous.
  • Interest in learning new skills, practicing and sharpening existing skills, working within a team, and sharing and accepting constructive feedback.
