Position Details:

  • Employment Type: Full-time, permanent
  • Reports to: Director, Corporate Affairs
  • Salary Range: $65,000-80,000 annually with benefits and 3 weeks paid vacation
  • Work Environment: CivicAction’s work is a hybrid workplace that combines both in-office and remote work. CivicAction’s physical offices are in downtown Toronto and technology will be provided to support both in-office and remote work. This position may involve some evening and weekend work.
  • Start Date: February 2025


Position Purpose

The Manager, Marketing & Communications strengthens CivicAction’s brand and impact by leading strategic communications and marketing initiatives that enhance visibility, engage stakeholders, and promote programs and campaigns. This role ensures high-quality content, effective media relations, and data-driven strategies to amplify the organization’s reach and influence and deepen engagement with stakeholders.


Key Accountabilities:

  • With support from the Director of Corporate Affairs, develop and implement diverse communications and marketing initiatives to elevate CivicAction’s brand awareness among a wide range of external stakeholders, including media, donors, and emerging and established leaders across the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
  • Lead the development, evaluation, and execution of the organization’s social media strategy across platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook), ensuring content is dynamic, audience-tailored, and aligned with strategic goals.
  • Monitor and maintain the current website to ensure optimal functionality and user experience, and collaborate with the Director of Corporate Affairs to design and launch a new website in 2025.
  • Partner with program leads to plan, budget, and implement web and marketing strategies that effectively promote CivicAction’s initiatives, events, and campaigns.
  • Develop key messages, press releases, presentation decks, newsletters, and other external communications materials.
  • Develop and implement media engagement strategies, including press releases, media kits, and event coordination, to amplify the organization’s reach; support the cultivation of media relationships to amplify CivicAction’s visibility.
  • Use analytics and evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of communications and marketing campaigns, ensuring data-informed decisions drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage the communications and marketing budget, and oversee external vendors for the production of high-quality marketing collateral, including publications, signage, and videos.


Qualifications and Skills


Required Education, Certification and Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, with 3-5 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or a related role. Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset.


Demonstrated Skills and Behaviours:

  • Proven ability to develop and execute effective communications and marketing strategies that drive brand awareness and stakeholder engagement.
  • Deep knowledge of social media platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook) and best practices, with experience in developing and executing audience-focused strategies.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience producing a variety of materials, including press releases, newsletters, and key messages, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and digital marketing tools, with a track record of managing websites and optimizing user experience.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights) to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and inform continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with media, secure coverage, and manage press interactions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, corporate partners, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize competing demands, and develop creative solutions to challenges.
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and external vendors to deliver high-quality communications and marketing materials.
