K’en T’em Limited Partnership (KTLP) is a for-profit corporation committed to providing the Nlaka’pamux people of the eight Citxw Nlaka’pamux Assembly (CNA) Participating Bands with the resources that will help them efficiently create, manage and operate business opportunities. We are seeking an experienced and strategic Business & Sales Development Manager to support and champion K’en T’em’s expanding portfolio of businesses. The Business & Sales Development Manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and advancing new economic and business opportunities that align with K’en T’em’s strategic priorities. This role focuses on opportunity development, internal business processes, business planning, and positioning the organization to successfully compete for and secure local and regional opportunities.

Working closely with senior leadership, the Business & Sales Development Manager will build a strong opportunity pipeline, develop compelling business cases, and ensure the organization is structured and prepared to bid competitively and execute successfully.


Primary Duties

  • Operationalizing guidance provided by the Executive Director, Board of Directors and other leaders and managers.
    • This requires a pragmatic understanding of work planning processes including goal setting, defining S.M.A.R.T objectives and the relevant tasks and tactics, and time management to meet those goals while effectively collaborating and negotiating with line managers and their staff, and external parties for ownership and action.
  • Opportunity Development and Market Awareness:
    • Identify and assess new local and regional sector opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
    • Conduct market research and sector analysis to inform strategic positioning.
    • Monitor procurement opportunities and industry developments to identify viable opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain a structured opportunity pipeline.
  • Bidding and Organizational Positioning:
    • Lead and coordinate responses to RFP’s and EOI’s and other procurement opportunities.
    • Develop standardized bid processes, templates, and internal systems to support efficiency.
    • Strengthen K’en T’em’s readiness for successful bidding.
    • Lead K’en T’em’s competitiveness within key sectors.
  • Business Planning and Development:
    • Lead the development of business plans and financial assessments for new ventures.
    • Prepare investment briefs, board materials, and decision-making documentation.
    • Support the design and structuring of new business entities or ventures.
    • Ensure opportunities align with community values and long-term economic goals.
  • Systems Development and Strategic Alignment:
    • Establish and refine internal business development processes and tracking systems.
    • Create tools and frameworks to assess risk, return, and strategic alignment.
    • Support governance processes related to opportunity approval and advancement.
    • Track performance metrics and report on pipeline progress.
  • Onboarding new businesses and guiding their integration into K’en T’em’s operations.
    • This requires the ability to understand business transition processes, maintaining productive relationships with the legacy owners, managers and staff; the key importance of customers, market trends and competitive forces; and effective and accountable work planning and implementation processes.
  • Providing advice and support to K’en T’em’s Managers and Leads in internal and external facing departments including Operations, Finance and Communications, Community and Business Development, Environmental and Cultural Services, and Print and Design.
    • This work requires the ability to develop effective peer relationships, trouble shooting and problem solving, organization and planning, operational management, business development strategies and implementation activities, and the knowledge of, experience and use of an extensive business method and product toolbox (ex. SWOT analysis, time and task analysis, through feasibility studies and business plans, business case, pitch deck preparations), instruction and coaching.
  • Initiating activities that further build professional competencies in K’en T’em business activities.
    • This work requires an ongoing ability to benchmark skills and work practices against standards and determine the best approaches to enable change and realizing better and best practices, and collaborating with the Human Resource Department for assessing capacities and identifying training and skill development initiatives.
  • Guiding the documentation of K’en T’em’s business activities and reporting to the Executive Director and CNA Leadership including memos, quarterly reporting, annual reporting and other special reports.
    • This work required collaboration with all departments, setting expectations, frameworks and reporting processes and meeting deadlines, and storytelling and the ability to write and edit in informative business English.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Business and accounting principles and reporting standards,
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools,
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail,
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adhere strictly to reporting timelines,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Ability to translate ideas into structured and actionable business plans
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information with discretion and professionalism, and
  • Willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.

Experience and Requirements

  • Experience in an early-stage (start-up) business environment in a unique cultural and political context,
  • Graduate of a relevant post-secondary technical or business program; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience, MBA preferred,
  • Masterful organizational, communication, and leadership skills, demonstrated by previous professional success,
  • Experience preparing bids, business plans, and financial models,
  • Experience with procurement processes and competitive bidding,
  • Leadership, executive, and management training,
  • Outstanding communication and people skills,
  • Experience working in multi-entity or Indigenous-led organizations is an asset,
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation,
  • Willingness and ability to work in Merritt, BC as required, and
  • Criminal Record Check will be required.

Work Environment

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 40 hours per week
  • Overtime: As per the BC Employment Standards Act (BCESA) Managers are not eligible for overtime.
  • Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K’en T’em office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC,
  • Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
  • Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
  • Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
