Compensation: $36,400.00 - $48,000.00 annually

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
The Communications Assistant supports the coordination of community engagement activities and the delivery of communications across the CNA. This role assists with events, maintains the website and social media platforms, and supports the development and distribution of key communications materials. The position also helps manage member information and supports effective, culturally respectful communication with communities.
Primary Duties
- Supports the coordination of general and department-specific regular and special community engagement sessions, events and communications media within budgets, protocols, policies, and standards as being adhered to,
- Supports the communications department in the development and implementation of strategic communication and proactive community engagement initiatives,
- Produces, updates, and coordinates the distribution, uploading and sharing of a quarterly newsletter and the annual report,
- Updates and maintains company website and social media platforms,
- Maintains a network of media contacts,
- Maintains database of member contact information and communication/department preferences,
- Responsible for sending communications to members on an as-needed basis while adhering to their communication preferences,
- Ensures the nłeʔképmx culture and history are reflected in aspects and functions of media material, where applicable,
- Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the CNA,
- Ensure all media reflects creative and innovative marketing strategies,
- Reach new audiences and increase member engagement results,
- Develop and monitor monthly communications data/metrics and develop agile responses to new opportunities or challenges, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Communications and Engagement Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and coordinate events and community engagement initiatives,
- Proficiency in website management, content publishing platforms, and social media channels,
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate content,
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and support engagement growth,
- Ability to balance and integrate diverse departmental needs into cohesive and effective communication strategies,
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital content tools,
- Strong research, data collection, and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare reports and related documentation,
- Working knowledge of photography and audio/visual equipment to support communications and media content, and
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate concurrent activities, and keep stakeholders informed in a dynamic environment.
Experience and Requirements
- Experience in communications, community engagement, event coordination, or a related field is an asset,
- Experience supporting website and social media content, newsletters, or organizational communications is an asset,
- Willingness and ability to travel to attend events, meetings, and community engagement activities, and
- A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, with access to a reliable vehicle is necessary.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, with regular flexibility required for events and meetings in evenings and weekends. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: The position is primarily office-based, and the work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave., with the expectation that in-community work will be required,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
