Term: Full-time, Permanent
Compensation: $42,000.00 - $50,000.00 annually (includes on site-housing)

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
As a Property Caretaker (Live-In), you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and operation of nʔiyecin e ʔisweɬ (the Surrey Lake Property), ensuring the spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone. This involves regular upkeep and repairs, as well as proactive measures to prevent issues before they arise.
Primary Duties
- Care for and maintain nʔiyecin e ʔisweɬ (the Surrey Lake Property), ensuring it is safe, clean, and well-kept,
- Be available for community support during events,
- Assist in the transportation of goods across the territory as needed,
- Help gather and manage firewood supplies for community use, ensuring resources are readily available,
- Conduct regular inspections of property and assets to identify maintenance needs and ensure safety standards are met,
- Perform repairs and maintenance tasks, such as fixing leaks, painting, landscaping and yardwork,
- Assist with prep and tear down for community events and workshops,
- Ensure well maintained waste and recycling management,
- Regularly monitor for pests/invasives and install control barriers as needed,
- Cleaning of cabins after guest use,
- Maintain accessibility (snow removal, tree removal, and minor road maintenance),
- Upkeep initiatives on the property (such as small crop-care and small livestock), and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as community events and gatherings often take place during these times,
- A strong sense of community and teamwork,
- Ability to complete logbooks, and/ or documentation of maintenance records,
- Self-motivated and can work on their own without supervision,
- Strong level of written and verbal communication skills,
- Recognize and respect cultural diversity, have experience working with nłeʔképmx and indigenous communities and have knowledge of culture and traditions, and
- Physically fit, able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 50lbs, and walk through dense terrain.
Experience and Requirements
- Mandatory: Due to the role's focus on, and engagement with the nłeʔképmx Nation, this position is open specifically to nłeʔképmx people,
- A valid Drivers License, with access to a personal vehicle and a Vulnerable Sector Check, are mandatory,
- Experience with tools and heavy-equipment, such as farm work, logging, or general labour,
- Excellent understanding of habitats of plants and animals, and
- Ability to work in a team setting, accept responsibility, and work to deadlines.
Work Environment
- Special Live-In Conditions:
- We will provide housing on the resort property as part of compensation,
- We will cover utilities, including electricity, water, internet, etc.,
- The employee will reside on the property in the provided accommodations as a condition of employment,
- The residence is appropriate for a single person or a couple due to accommodations,
- The employee agrees to maintain the living quarters in good condition and comply with employment policies and procedures, including property rules,
- The employees’ use of the resort facilities is limited to the performance of their duties unless otherwise approved, and
- Personal guests or visitors require prior written approval.
- Schedule: Employee’s schedule shall be flexible depending on the needs of the property, generally averaging 35 hours per week, with the expectation that weekend, holiday, and evening work may be required,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC, with the expectation of living on off-grid Surrey Lake Property, approx. 40 min north of Merritt, BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
