Term: Full-Time, 8-Week Term
Compensation: $21.00/hour
Start Date: July 3rd, 2026

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
The Summer Worker - Language Support will support the ʔesknstwexʷ (Language and Culture) Department in creating, organizing, and sharing nłeʔkepmxcín (language) and cultural materials. This position provides hands-on experience in language preservation, educational resource development, and community-based cultural initiatives.
Primary Duties
- Work collaboratively with Elders and Language Keepers to document and preserve traditional knowledge,
- Develop and design a variety of printed and digital educational resources,
- Catalogue and organize materials to ensure easy access and reference,
- Assist with the maintenance of shared community databases for resource accessibility,
- Label and classify data to support effective organization and retrieval,
- Review and track resources for accuracy and consistency,
- Provide support to community Language Champions in their initiatives, and
- Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by the ʔesknstwexʷ Manager and Coordinators.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Interest in nłeʔképmx culture, language, and community engagement,
- Strong organizational and communication skills,
- Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with staff and Members of the community,
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines, and
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Experience and Requirements
- Must be 15-30 years of age at the start of the term,
- Experience in educational support, resource development, or cultural programs is an asset, and
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required for projects and community initiatives.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x (excessive banked overtime hours may create a shortened term),
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC, with in community work expected, and
- Vacation: paid out at 4% as outlined in the BC Employment Standards Act (BCESA).
Training and mentorship will be provided to support skill development and learning opportunities.
