Reports To: nłeʔképmx Guardians Supervisor
Term: Full-Time, 8-Week Term
Compensation: $21.00/hour
Start Date: July 3rd, 2026

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.

The nłeʔképmx Guardians program works to protect and steward the lands, waters, and cultural heritage of nłeʔképmx territory. The program combines environmental monitoring, cultural preservation, and community education to support sustainable land use and conservation.

As a nłeʔképmx guardian, you will gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship and land management while collaborating with fellow Guardians and Land Technicians. This role provides opportunities to develop skills in monitoring, reporting, data management, and community engagement, while promoting awareness of nłeʔképmx lands and culture.

Primary Duties

  • Monitor and assess the health of lands, waters, and wildlife within traditional nłeʔképmx territory,
  • Collect, manage, and analyze environmental and cultural data,
  • Prepare reports and contribute to decision-making processes for land use and conservation,
  • Assist with land-use planning and conservation initiatives,
  • Share knowledge with youth and community members about land stewardship,
  • Track environmental changes due to climate impacts, development, or resource extraction, and
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by the nłeʔképmx Guardians Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Interest in environmental stewardship, land management, and nłeʔképmx culture,
  • Strong organizational and communication skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community members,
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines, and
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.

Experience and Requirements

  • Must be 15-30 years of age at the start of the term,
  • Must be able to follow required safety measures,
  • Experience in community programs, administrative work, or public relations is an asset, and
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed for fieldwork and community events.

Work Environment

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with flexibility for fieldwork and community engagement,
  • Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x (excessive banked overtime hours may create a shortened term),
  • Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC, with in community work expected, and
  • Vacation: paid out at 4% as outlined in the BC Employment Standards Act (BCESA).


Training and mentorship will be provided to support skill development and learning opportunities.

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and provides a valuable opportunity to gain experience in event planning, cultural programming, and community engagement.
