Compensation: $55,000-$70,000 annually

The Health and Safety Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of workplace health and safety programs to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and organizational standards. This role is responsible for maintaining policies and procedures, conducting inspections and risk assessments, delivering safety training, and supporting incident investigations and reporting. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, the Coordinator promotes a strong safety culture across all operations while tracking safety metrics and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Primary Duties
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of workplace health and safety programs in alignment with legal requirements,
- Maintain and update health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices,
- Coordinate with internal teams and partnered companies to promote safe work environments,
- Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations to ensure compliance,
- Deliver health and safety training, orientations, and presentations,
- Monitor compliance with health and safety policies and regulatory requirements,
- Inspect equipment, tools, and work environments to identify unsafe conditions,
- Support incident investigations, including documentation and follow-up actions,
- Track and report on safety metrics, incidents, and corrective actions,
- Support compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements across all operations and offices,
- Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, including scheduling and documentation,
- Assist office operations by supporting daily workflows that prioritize communication and administrative processes enhance overall productivity, and
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint applications,
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and standards,
- Ability to analyze data, apply guidelines, and assess risks effectively,
- Strong attention to detail and observation ability,
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills,
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and
- Willingness to learn or knowledge of beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- Health and Safety related education is considered an asset,
- 1-2 years of experience in health and safety or related field,
- Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies,
- Valid Standing First Aid Certificate, and
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Primary Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from either the K’en T’em office at Lac Le Jeune Road, Kamloops, BC, or Merritt, BC (whichever is closer to the successful candidates residence), with the expectation of working from both locations as required to support operational needs,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
