Term: Full-time, Permanent
Compensation: $50,000.00- 68,000.00 annually

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
This position emphasizes the importance of engaging with community members throughout the natural resource project lifecycles, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected. The Environment and Regulatory Coordinator will assist with assessing and reporting on the environmental and social impacts of these initiatives, aligning project outcomes with community values and sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of Indigenous perspectives related to natural resource projects and environmental stewardship.
Primary Duties
- Provide proactive and transparent communication and engagement services related to natural resource projects,
- Collaborate within the Territorial Stewardship department to develop and implement environmental and regulatory practices, procedures, and plans that align with the department's mandate,
- Support the implementation of the department’s operational plan,
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance community awareness of cumulative effects, mineral resource activities, and avenues for community engagement,
- Ensure effective internal and external reporting on operations related to technical processes,
- Develop tools and methodologies based on nłeʔképmx knowledge and western science, to assess environmental and social impact related to natural resource projects,
- Work collaboratively with the Participating Bands, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to address community concerns in a timely manner, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Senior Environment and Regulatory Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to handle multiple projects with tight deadlines and potentially competing interests,
- Self-motivated and possess exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team,
- Knowledge of local ecosystems and species,
- Positive attitude towards implementing health and safety systems,
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, and be adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate the highest level of competency and confidentiality,
- Knowledge of First Nations heritage, language, traditional and/or cultural resources,
- Willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity,
- Intermediate proficiency Microsoft Office productivity software,
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and
- Strong technical writing skills.
Experience and Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Geology, Biochemistry, Anthropology or related fields,
- Proven experience in project coordination, particularly within environmental sectors,
- Experience in research and analysis and the application of research and evaluation materials to support community, technical and regulatory engagement,
- Experience in liaising, consulting and/or collaborating with multiple stakeholders and/or governments is an asset,
- Experience with supervision is an asset,
- Experience working in a field related to Indigenous relations,
- Experience in working with First Nations, preferably the nłeʔképmx Nation, relating to collaborative stewardship and mineral resource projects,
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS), specifically ArcGIS is an asset, and
- Willingness to travel for work, with a valid BC Class 5 driver's license, with access to a personal vehicle.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
