Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.

The Employment & Training Coordinator - Driving Instructor plays a key role in supporting community members to access employment readiness, skills development, and essential licensing required for participation in the workforce. This position coordinates employment and training initiatives while delivering and supporting driving instruction programming that helps reduce barriers to employment and independence. This role is suited to someone who is organized, people-centred, adaptable, and committed to community capacity-building. The driving instruction component of this role is evolving, and training will be provided for the right candidate.


Primary Duties

Employment & Training Coordination

  • Coordinate and support employment and training programs for CNA members,
  • Assist participants with employment readiness, training pathways, and scheduling,
  • Liaise with internal departments, external training providers, employers, and community partners,
  • Maintain accurate participant records, tracking systems, and program documentation,
  • Support reporting requirements, funding deliverables, and timelines, and
  • Provide one-on-one guidance and ongoing support to participants.

Driving Instruction & Licensing Support

  • Deliver or support driver education and road safety instruction,
  • Coordinate driving schedules, lesson planning, and participant progress,
  • Ensure safety protocols, documentation, and instructional standards are followed, and
  • Support the development, refinement, and growth of CNA’s driving instruction programming.

General Responsibilities

  • Uphold a professional, supportive, and culturally respectful approach,
  • Participate in program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement,
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate documentation standards,
  • Maintain physical fitness to lift 50 lbs, and
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Experience and Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (held for a minimum of 3 years),
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in employment and training coordination, program administration, education, or community-based service delivery is an asset,
  • Experience supporting individuals through training, employment readiness, or skill development processes,
  • Experience maintaining records, schedules, and program documentation,
  • Willingness to complete Vulnerable Sector Check,
  • Willingness to submit 5-year Driver’s Abstract,
  • Willingness to complete a medical examination required for the Driving Instructor Certification,
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required to meet program needs, and
  • Willingness to complete Driving Instructor training, if not already certified.

  • Understanding of employment readiness, training pathways, and workforce development principles,
  • Knowledge of road safety principles and driver education best practices (or willingness to learn),
  • Awareness of Indigenous community contexts and culturally safe service delivery,
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse participants,
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills,
  • Ability to coordinate schedules, track progress, and manage multiple priorities,
  • Clear documentation, reporting, and administrative skills,
  • Instructional or coaching skills, including the ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently,
  • Ability to build trust and supportive relationships with participants,
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment,
  • Ability to adapt to evolving program needs and new responsibilities,
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, and
  • Ability to model safe, respectful, and professional behaviour at all times.

Work Environment

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, with regular flexibility required for events and meetings in evenings and weekends. On average, 35 hours per week,
  • Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
  • Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA Office at 2025 Granite Ave. Merritt BC,
  • Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
  • Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
  • Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
