Compensation: $50,000.00 – $54,600.00 annually

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.

The Engagement Specialist plays a vital leadership role in ensuring meaningful, consistent, and equitable engagement between CNA and all Participating Bands and Partner Communities. This position supervises the Community Engagement Coordinators (CECs) and ensures high-quality service delivery, communication, and collaboration across communities. The Engagement Specialist is responsible for coordinating engagement initiatives, monitoring accountability and reporting, supporting project and budget management, and strengthening relationships between CNA departments and community partners.


Primary Duties

  • Supervise and support 8+ Community Engagement Coordinators,
  • Act as the first point of contact for CECs for coordination of regular and special community engagement sessions and events,
  • Ensure equitable services and consistent engagement across all Participating Bands and partner communities,
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to CECs to ensure professional and culturally relevant representation of CNA,
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic communication and proactive community engagement initiatives,
  • Coordinate and plan engagement activities in collaboration with various CNA departments,
  • Oversee data tracking, collection, and analysis related to engagement activities and community participation,
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements for engagement initiatives,
  • Monitor CEC reporting and accountability, ensuring detailed, accurate, and timely submissions,
  • Support creation and maintenance of member contact databases and communication preferences,
  • Identify barriers and opportunities for reaching on-reserve and off-reserve members,
  • Provide community-based support for in-person and virtual engagement,
  • Oversee CNA-owned social media pages and digital engagement tools used by CECs,
  • Gather and relay community feedback to CNA departments for program development and improvement,
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with Band Administrations, community leaders, and Partner Communities,
  • Assist with development and maintenance of event resources, calendars, and materials, and
  • Fulfill basic Community Engagement Coordinator duties on an as-needed basis, and
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Communications and Engagement Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of nłeʔképmx culture, communities, and protocols,
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills,
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities,
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills,
  • Experience with data tracking, reporting, and budget management,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community partners,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills,
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion,
  • High level of cultural awareness and respect for Indigenous traditions and values, and
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and digital communication platforms.

Experience and Requirements

  • 2 years experience in community engagement, communications, project coordination, or a related field,
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is strongly preferred,
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations,
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities,
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle,
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to Participating Bands and Partner Communities, and
  • Willingness to complete and pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Work Environment

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, with regular flexibility required for events and meetings in evenings and weekends. On average, 35 hours per week,
  • Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
  • Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA Office at 2025 Granite Ave. Merritt BC,
  • Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
  • Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
  • Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
  • Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
