Compensation: $110,000-$120,000 annually

K’en T’em Limited Partnership is hiring a Senior Project Archaeologist to support and lead ongoing environmental and archaeological projects within the Nlaka'pamux territory. The successful candidate will act as a Field Director and must be eligible to hold and manage archaeological permits. The incumbent will be required to work a flexible schedule, with office days being 8-hour shifts and fieldwork ranging from 8–12 hour shifts. This role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and may require weekend work and extended hours during peak fieldwork months (May through October).
Primary Duties
- Oversees archaeological field crews in locating, collecting, recording, and interpreting data for survey and excavation projects,
- Coordinates on-site logistics for archaeological projects and resolves problems to ensure the timely, safe, and effective completion of project objectives,
- Act as a consultant to both K’en T’em and the not-for-profit organization Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly,
- Ensures the application of safe work practices by crew members during survey/excavation projects,
- Provides functional guidance and leadership to technical staff in areas of specialty such as faunal, lithic and/or ceramic analysis,
- Assists with project planning activities, including identifying appropriate equipment, resources, personnel needs, project budgets, and research design,
- Performs direct research and analysis in one or more areas of archaeological specialty, writes or co-authors archaeological survey, excavation, and analysis reports that meet all reporting requirement, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Archaeology Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, technical report writing skills, and project management skills,
- Prepared for physically demanding work in all conditions and outside normal work hours,
- Previous work with Indigenous Government or Organizations an asset,
- Willingness to learn knowledge of nłeʔkepmx cultural values, nłeʔkepmx protocols, and beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, and
- Recognizes and respects cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- 4-year degree in Archaeology or Anthropology,
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience leading teams,
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience with fieldwork,
- Meet British Columbia requirements for Field Director and be able to hold permits,
- Valid first aid certificate preferred, and
- Able to provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
Work Environment
- Schedule: Office hours are 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday, with a 30-minute paid lunch break, fieldwork hours will vary by project, and a schedule will be posted on a weekly basis. On average, 40 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K’en T’em office in either Merritt or Kamloops BC, with the expectation that field work is required,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
