Overview of Position
Kids@ Churchill Park is seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Educator to join our Connaught Out of School Care program. This seasonal, after school position operates from September to June, with closures during winter and summer breaks.
Profile of Kids@ Churchill Park - Connaught Out of School Care Program
- Children enrolled from kindergarten to 12 years old
- Working Hours: 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday. No split shift. Hours will be based on the needs of the program.
- Location: 1121 12 Ave SW, Calgary AB, T2R 0J8 (Located inside Connaught School)
Qualifications, Skills and Professional Attributes
- Alberta Child Care Certification Level 2 minimum
- Current Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR from an approved agency
- Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, dated not earlier than 6 months prior to your start date and every 3 years after that day.
- Experience with school aged children 5-12 years old an asset.
- Strong understanding of child development and play-based learning.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current best practices and work standards in Early Learning and Child Care and Education.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulation.
- Willing to participate in professional development opportunities
- Willing to learn, open to feedback and shared leadership
- Strong problem solving skills, ability to think head, and adaptability
- Excellent communication & teamwork skills
- Skills working with diverse populations and needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a warm, nurturing and inclusive environment to all the children in the program.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
- Meeting the emotional, social, physical, intellectual needs of the children
- Guide the children in developing social, emotional, and self-help skills.
- Supervise and engage children in open spaces (e.g. large gym, school field) to ensure safety and positive play experiences.
- Implementing open-ended art activities to encourage children's imagination.
- Develop and deliver engaging, inclusive, and age-appropriate programming.
- Arranging the classroom environment to meet the program’s vision and objectives.
- Observe, document, and assess the children's development to inform curriculum planning.
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and the school to foster a supportive community.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Keeping all relevant records, checklists, attendance and timesheets updated.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, contributing to a positive team environment.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding their children's progress and experiences.
- Ensure that all licensing regulations, centre policies, and safety guidelines are understood and met.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and reflective practices.
