The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) is seeking dedicated, skilled, and community-minded leaders to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help shape the future of South Asian communities across Canada.
As CASSA continues to expand its national impact, we are looking for individuals who are committed to equity, inclusion, human rights, social justice, community empowerment, and strong governance.

About CASSA
The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) is a registered charitable national umbrella organization that supports, strengthens, and advocates for South Asian-serving organizations, groups, and communities across Canada.
Our mission is to empower South Asian communities through advocacy, capacity building, research, community engagement, and collective action. We are committed to advancing equity and eliminating all forms of discrimination in solidarity with Indigenous, Black, racialized, immigrant, and marginalized communities.
CASSA is governed by an 11-member volunteer Board of Directors that provides strategic leadership, governance oversight, and guidance on the organization's growth and impact.
As a Board Director, you will play an important role in helping CASSA:
- Advance its strategic priorities and long-term vision
- Expand its national presence and partnerships
- Strengthen organizational sustainability and governance
- Support innovative initiatives that address the needs of South Asian communities across Canada

Board Director Responsibilities
Board Directors are expected to:
- Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight
- Contribute to the development and implementation of CASSA's strategic plan
- Ensure that programs, services, and organizational activities align with CASSA's mission, vision, and values
- Support fundraising, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and community outreach efforts
- Act as ambassadors for CASSA within their networks and communities
- Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and committee work
- Uphold CASSA's bylaws, policies, and governance practices
Time Commitment
- Approximately 3-5 hours per month (e.g. monthly board meetings, committee meetings, responding to emails, participating in events, etc.)
- Attend at least 10 of 12 monthly Board meetings per calendar year
- Attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- Participate in committee meetings or special meetings as required
Qualifications
We welcome applications from individuals who bring a combination of leadership experience, community commitment, and strategic thinking.
Ideal candidates will have:
- A demonstrated commitment to equity, anti-racism, anti-oppression, and social justice
- Experience working with nonprofit, community-based, or public-sector organizations
- An understanding of organizational growth, governance, and strategic planning
- Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills
- A passion for strengthening South Asian communities across Canada
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Finance, Accounting, or Financial Oversight
- Fundraising and Resource Development
- Human Resources and Organizational Development
- Nonprofit Leadership and Management
- Digital Innovation, Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or Social Media
- Strategic Planning and Performance Measurement
- Government Relations and Stakeholder Engagement
- Board Governance and Policy Development
- Community Advocacy and Systems Change
While we encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, preference will be given to candidates who bring lived experience and connections to South Asian communities.
