About Capitalize for Kids

Capitalize for Kids engages the financial services community to invest in kids’ mental health. We provide strategic support to youth mental health service providers to help them increase their capacity to deliver services. Our charitable work is made possible by hosting Canada’s top Investors Conference, running The Bay Street Games, and cultivating long-term donor relations.


The Role:

Capitalize for Kids is a high-calibre team of professionals with backgrounds in finance, non-profits, management consulting and marketing. Every member of the team carries an interdisciplinary workload.


The Community Development Manager will take ownership of all engagement, fundraising, and stewardship activities related to community-level giving. This role looks to build our community, engaging them in our cause, soliciting donations, and reporting back the impact of their gifts. As part of a small team at Capitalize for Kids, you will play a critical role in building the organization.

Our organization maintains a strong network, great events, and a unique impact program. Being successful in this role means bringing all those things together to create real and sustainable growth and support for kids’ mental health. To be successful in this position, the candidate must take initiative, be results oriented, highly organized, and passionate for creating more service capacity for our beneficiaries in the youth mental health sector.

This position reports directly to the Director of Business Development.


Responsibilities:

Community Fundraising

  • Develop new fundraising initiatives and opportunities
  • Manage and create community fundraising appeals via email campaigns and social media, in collaboration with Manager of Marketing
  • Develop and execute a communication and fundraising strategy for important community giving movements including GivingTuesday, Holiday Giving, etc.
  • Help drive more donations surrounding our existing events like the Investors Conference, Bay Street Games, and Impact Breakfasts
  • Ensure the effective stewardship of all community-level donors

Peer-to-Peer Events

  • Develop and execute a fundraising strategy for the Bay Street Games
  • Work with the Manager of Marketing and the Events Manager to ensure the success of all peer-to-peer campaigns
  • Produce digital appeals and stewardship pieces
  • Provide donor and fundraiser support throughout all peer-to-peer events

Corporate Donor Management

  • Ensure effective donor management organizational frameworks and processes are in place
  • Prepare donor correspondence, proposals, meeting briefs and call notes
  • Identify and deliver excellent donor stewardship activities
  • Help grow a portfolio of corporate donors
  • Research and contribute to building a pipeline of new corporate giving opportunities and prospects

Investors Conference Support

· Work with the Business Development Associate and Events Manager to help support and manage any administrative work as needed

· Help identify and possibly solicit conference sponsors and donors

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant post-secondary degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Charitable sector experience, or transferable experience of a business development role
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with experience creating fundraising appeals a benefit
  • Excellent organization, planning and administrative skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners at all levels
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and results-oriented environment
  • Effective negotiating and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • MS Office proficiency required. Experience with ActiveCampaign, Airtable, and Donor Driven / Classy or similar web-based fundraising platforms considered an asset

Hours of work

· Regular office hours: 9 am to 5 pm

· C4K staff are currently working in a hybrid work model, working remotely and in the downtown Toronto office 2-3 days a week when it is safe to do so

· Occasional evenings and weekends during event periods (Investors Conference, Bay Street Games) and vacation restrictions may be imposed during event periods (Investors Conference, Bay Street Games)
