Brigadoon Village is a non-profit recreational facility delivering year-round camp programming that seeks to passionately transform the lives of Atlantic Canadian children and youth living with health conditions and other life challenges. We support campers to reach their full potential through experiential learning, meaningful connections and exceptional fun.
Brigadoon Village is located on Aylesford Lake in the Annapolis Valley. With an office located in Halifax’s North End.
Who We’re Looking For
This position is primarily responsible for coordinating community-based philanthropy and enhancing and increasing Brigadoon’s visibility through fundraising events, while engaging community members and organizations interested in supporting Brigadoon Village.
The Community Engagement Officer will help execute Brigadoon’s donor and volunteer stewardship plans, ensuring event sponsors, donors and volunteers are acknowledged, engaged and recognized for their generosity.
This position will identify new opportunities to build relationships with businesses, individuals and community groups interested in supporting Brigadoon Village through cause-related marketing, third party fundraising events and other community activities.
The Community Engagement Officer will be part of a small, dynamic team that is responsible for reaching annual fund development targets. We are looking for a collaborative colleague who will add their positive energy and expertise, as well as a passion for donor engagement and stewardship.
This full-time position will be based out of Brigadoon's Halifax office and will involve some travel to events and our camp on Aylesford Lake.
Key Responsibilities
· Responsible for the co-creation, planning, logistics and successful execution of Brigadoon’s new signature event.
· Working with the philanthropy team to oversee the fundraising function for the BIG SWIM for Brigadoon Village, a special third-party event in partnership with GIVE TO LIVE.
· Proudly represent and speak on behalf of Brigadoon Village at community and corporate events.
· Responsible for supporting existing and bringing new third-party events and initiatives to Brigadoon
· Recruit & support internal and external volunteers for other fundraising campaigns such as McHappy Day, as well as other initiatives.
· Oversee logistics for donor stewardship and recognition events, in consultation with philanthropy team.
· Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Characteristics
· Demonstrated event management skills including problem solving, analytical and organizational skills, innovation, creativity and negotiation
· Understanding and commitment to innovation of community fundraising practices
· Experience working within a fundraising team
· Comfortable with public speaking on behalf of Brigadoon Village
· Demonstrated experience collaborating and supporting leadership volunteers
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment of competing priorities
· A commitment to meeting Brigadoon’s mission
· Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record checks
· Excellent interpersonal, communications and consultative skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Computer literacy including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Blackbaud CRM
· High level of risk awareness, ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve
· Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
· Enthusiastic, passionate, self-starter,
· Excels at managing timelines, working with others to prioritize opportunities
· Team approach: flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, able to work in a small office environment and at other program locations,
· Open to having fun and participating in the odd potluck!
