Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead delivery of a large-scale residential project in Calgary. This role is accountable for end-to-end construction execution, including direct oversight of the General Contractor, coordination of external consultants, and day-to-day control of schedule, budget, quality, and risk.
Success in this role requires strong on-the-ground presence, fast and sound decision-making, and the ability to clearly communicate priorities and direction across a complex stakeholder group.
What You Will Do
Construction Leadership & Execution
- Lead construction execution through close-out, with consistent on-site presence
- Make timely, well-reasoned decisions on construction, sequencing, and staffing issues
- Provide direct oversight of the General Contractor, holding them accountable to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards
Schedule, Budget & Decision-Making
- Own the master construction schedule and actively manage risks to critical path items
- Review and approve schedules, change orders, draw requests, and staffing plans with a bias toward speed, accuracy, and value-for-money
- Make prompt decisions to avoid delays, cost overruns, or ambiguity in the field
Technical & Building Systems Expertise
- Apply strong working knowledge of structural, envelope, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and life-safety systems
- Identify constructability and integration issues early and drive practical, cost-effective resolutions
- Ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, codes, and approved design intent
Consultant & Partner Management
- Manage and coordinate external partners, including architects, engineers, inspectors, and specialty consultants
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with the GC, consultants, municipal authorities, and ownership
- Lead coordination meetings to resolve issues quickly and maintain momentum
Communication & Reporting
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with ownership, consultants, and site teams
- Provide structured, actionable updates on progress, risks, decisions, and next steps
- Escalate issues early with clear options and recommendations
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain rigorous quality control and enforce safety and compliance standards on site
- Oversee inspections, deficiencies, and close-out to ensure timely and complete delivery
What We Are Looking For
Experience & Background
- 10+ years of experience in construction management or project management
- Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale conversion, adaptive reuse, or complex renovation projects
- Proven ability to manage a General Contractor and multiple external consultant teams
Execution & Leadership Traits
- Decisive, with the ability to make quick, informed decisions in a dynamic construction environment
- Strong written and verbal communicator who can cut through complexity and drive alignment
- Relationship-driven operator who builds credibility and accountability with partners and site teams
- Hands-on, field-oriented leader with a strong on-the-ground presence
Location Requirement
- Must be based in Calgary with regular, consistent site attendance
