Mission of the Controller


Oversee the financial operations ensuring the compliance of company procedures. The Controller will work closely with the VP of Finance, Assistant Controller, Executive Team and Operational Managers to support the strategic vision of Beanworks.



Functional Accountabilities


Monitor Company Financial Performance

  • Preparing weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports and making recommendations to the VP of Finance
  • Developing and managing financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures
  • Communicating financial metrics to the senior management team
  • Overseeing and developing cash flow management procedures including cash flow modeling and reporting
  • Preparing year-end working paper files and working with external auditors to efficiently produce year-end results
  • Compiling and analyzing financial reporting packages as requested and on a regular basis with strong consideration given to timeliness

Ensure Compliance with Company Policies and Reporting Requirements

  • Support the Assistant Controller with holding Team Members accountable to Company Policies
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly and annual operating budgets in consultation with key staff
  • Working with the different business units to develop appropriate divisional reporting including cost allocation between the business units
  • Streamlining accounting functions and operations
  • Working within Provincial regulations to ensure the company is in compliance with grants, working capital and reporting requirements
  • Completing semi-monthly payroll, tax filings, and ensuring accurate and technically correct financial transactions
  • Coordinating and reconciling payment systems and bank reconciliations

Provide Leadership and Support to Accounting Team

  • Coach and develop the Accounting Team for operational excellence
  • Streamline accounting functions and operations
  • Key areas within the human resources department will also be managed by the Controller, including policy and procedure compliance and ongoing maintenance of HR practices
  • Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plans


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • Recognized Accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CA),
  • Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals,3-5 years experience in a Controller position in a fast pace environment
  • Proven experience in finance management
  • Strong experience in accounting software (Quickbooks), point of sales systems, and spreadsheets and modeling
  • Auditing experience
