Responsibilities

  • Create and Maintain a Highly-Engaged Team: Perform 1:1s to determine pain points and come up with a strategy to address them with the support of the engineering leadership team. Create growth plans for each direct report and ensure team members are supported and given the opportunity to grow both hard and soft skills.
  • Improve Team Processes and Communication: Working with both the team and engineering leadership, identify ways to implement process and communication improvements. Work with Product Owners and Customer Success Managers to make sure the gap is being bridged between engineering and other teams. Ensure seamlessly movement from specification to delivery of our software. Build strong cross-team relationships. Support the scrum teams by conducting scrum master duties where needed.
  • Raise the Bar: Work with the Tech Collective and engineering leadership to prioritize and implement software engineering process and code base improvements. Identify relevant improvement metrics, track them, and pivot strategy wherever needed. Work with the VP of Engineering to build business cases for investments in training and tooling. Document and rollout software engineering best practices, and iterate where necessary. Deliver internal training sessions.
  • Identify Technical Risks and Resource Needs: Ensure that software is being built with an eye on the future - identify and escalate technical risks and resource needs to meet current and future business need. Create a business plan with ROI for efforts and costs that aren't directly related to the product.
  • Create and Maintain Team Documentation: Create onboarding documentation and plans for new developers. Maintain and contribute to process and technical documentation.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates must be able to work from our Vancouver, BC, Canada office.

  • 5+ years leading, motivating, and managing the work of technical teams - you’ve seen it and done it before
  • Proven experience in coaching and growing employees in both technical skills and supportive team behaviours
  • Demonstrated capability to improve the speed and quality of software deliverables
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal as well as comfortable presenting on technical concepts
  • Ability to see the big picture while paying attention to the details
  • Comfortable in a high-growth, rapidly changing environment
  • Experience leading teams integrating with ERPs preferred
