Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, BCFNJC is implementing the BC First Nations Justice Strategy.

This position supports implementation of the National Gender-Based Violence Action Plan and the Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan (IWJP).

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan Implementation Manager and working under the strategic direction of the GBV Education and Training Coordinator, the GBV Training and Education Specialist develops and delivers culturally grounded education initiatives addressing gender-based violence within the justice system.

The Specialist supports curriculum development, facilitation, participant engagement, and data collection aligned with funding agreement deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

The GBV Education and Training Specialist position is responsible for the following key functions.  

Curriculum Development:

  • Develop online and in-person GBV training modules aligned with IWJP strategies and Institutional Actor Education recommendations.
  • Translate legal, policy, and research materials into accessible and culturally grounded learning tools.
  • Develop case studies, reflection exercises, interactive modules, and assessment tools.

Training Delivery:

  • Facilitate virtual and in-person training sessions for justice system actors and partners.
  • Create culturally safe and trauma-informed learning environments.
  • Provide participant support and guidance throughout learning processes.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Policy Team to integrate current legal and policy developments into education materials.
  • Partner with the Women’s Team to incorporate community-informed perspectives.
  • Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and subject matter experts in co-design processes.

Data Collection & Reporting Support:

  • Track participant attendance and engagement metrics.
  • Administer and collect post-training surveys measuring awareness and impact.
  • Support data collection and reporting in collaboration with the Director of Planning and Project Management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation aligned with funding agreement requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Facilitating difficult conversations related to gender-based violence and systemic racism.
  • Balancing creative curriculum design with funding compliance requirements.
  • Meeting timelines while ensuring cultural and relational integrity.
  • Graduate-level education or equivalent lived and professional experience in Indigenous education, instructional design, social justice, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in adult education, curriculum development, or professional training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gender-based violence and violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2S+ people.
  • Experience facilitating culturally safe and trauma-informed learning spaces.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous pedagogies and OCAP® principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant educational technologies.
  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment.
  • Operates under general direction. Exercises judgment in curriculum development and facilitation while escalating strategic or policy-sensitive issues to the Coordinator and IWJP Implementation Manager.
  • Work is performed primarily remotely.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Lifting up to 20–30 lbs.

Location: Remote, BC

Pay Range: $65,000 - $79,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Hours: Full-time (35hours/week); Mondays to Fridays

Term: Ending March 31, 2027 (with possibility of extension)
