Organization Summary:

Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, the BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is mandated to transform the justice system and advance implementation of the BC First Nations Justice Strategy.

This position is funded under the Canada-British Columbia bilateral agreement supporting implementation of the National Gender-Based Violence Action Plan and advances priority strategies under the Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan (IWJP).

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan Implementation Manager, the GBV Education and Training Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the development, delivery, tracking, and reporting of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) education initiatives funded under the National GBV Action Plan.

The Coordinator ensures that all education deliverables align with:

  • Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan priority strategies
  • Institutional Actor Education recommendations (Dr. Kim Stanton Final Report)
  • Justice system responses to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
  • Funding agreement reporting obligations

This role works closely with the Policy Team, Women’s Team, senior leadership, and justice system partners to ensure coordinated implementation and compliance with funding requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

The GBV Education and Training Coordinator position is responsible for the following key functions.  

Strategic Leadership & Coordination:

  • Lead implementation of GBV education and training deliverables outlined in the funding agreement.
  • Coordinate education initiatives across the Policy Team and Women’s Team to ensure integrated delivery.
  • Liaise with senior leaders at BCFNJC to identify and advance training opportunities across portfolios.
  • Ensure alignment with the BC First Nations Justice Strategy and IWJP objectives.

Education Program Oversight:

  • Oversee development of culturally grounded GBV training modules (online, hybrid, and in-person).
  • Ensure content reflects trauma-informed, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and Indigenous pedagogical approaches.
  • Guide subject matter experts in translating policy and legal frameworks into accessible education materials.

Funding Compliance & Reporting:

  • Establish and oversee systems to collect required data under the funding agreement, including:
    • Number of Indigenous-led activities
    • Number of culturally appropriate programs delivered
    • Number and type of training sessions
    • Participation data (disaggregated by partner type)
    • Survey results measuring increased GBV awareness
  • Work with the Director of Planning and Project Management to track progress and develop reports for Council, First Nations, and funders.
  • Prepare narrative and quantitative reporting required by funding agreements.
  • Monitor timelines and milestones to ensure completion by March 31, 2027.

Collaboration & Relationship Building:

  • Build and maintain relationships with justice system actors, Indigenous organizations, and community partners.
  • Support cross-departmental coordination to strengthen institutional actor education across BCFNJC.
  • Ensure compliance with OCAP® principles and ethical data governance standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Balancing relational, culturally grounded engagement with external reporting timelines.
  • Coordinating cross-departmental collaboration while maintaining funding compliance.
  • Navigating complex and sensitive subject matter related to gender-based violence and systemic justice inequities.
  • Ensuring consistent quality and impact across diverse audiences and justice system partners.
  • Graduate-level education or equivalent experience in Indigenous studies, education, law, social work, public policy, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in program coordination, adult education, justice reform, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gender-based violence, Indigenous justice issues, and systemic discrimination.
  • Experience managing projects tied to public funding agreements and reporting requirements.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and data tracking skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel as required.
  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment.
  • Operates under general direction of the IWJP Implementation Manager. Makes decisions related to program coordination, reporting systems, and training implementation within established funding and policy frameworks. Escalates strategic or high-risk matters to the IWJP Implementation Manager and Director of Policy.
  • Work is performed primarily remotely.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Some projects may require concentrated effort and quick turnaround timelines.
  • Lifting up to 20–30 lbs.

Pay Range: $65,000 - $79,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Hours: Full-time (35hours/week); Mondays to Fridays

Term: Ending March 31, 2027 (with possibility of extension)
