Community Outreach Intern

Job Location: Aurora, ON

Hourly Wage: $19.70


Join the dynamic team at the Aurora Cultural Centre to carry and amplify the Aurora Cultural Centre’s message and brand into the community. We are actively seeking one (1) Community Outreach Intern to plan, build and implement activities to enhance public engagement with programs at the Centre. This position works in collaboration with the Communications department and reports to the Marketing & Community Outreach Coordinator.

The Aurora Cultural Centre is a vibrant, multidisciplinary arts organization located in the heart of York Region. Our mandate is to engage and inspire our community with a diverse range of visual art, music and educational programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Community event planning and attendance, including selected dates at local farmer’s markets, outdoor community special events, occasional evening concerts and street festivals;
  • Actively engage with the public to connect their interests to programs knowledge about the Centre, including via street marketing initiatives;
  • Research and connect with potential community partners;
  • Engage with the Centre’s social media channels in collaboration with the Marketing & Community Outreach Coordinator, including some content creation focused on the Centre’s arts activities;
  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Communications & Outreach team, and Outreach Committee members.


Skills and Experience

  • Enjoys and excels at any kind of public engagement;
  • Self-starter and resourceful able to work at various times in unsupervised settings;
  • College/university-level student with education and/or experience in marketing, communications, community work or arts engagement;
  • Able to undertake various physical tasks required by the position including lifting/carrying of supplies up to 50lbs, booth set-up with tent and table equipment, transport of supplies to various spaces.


Requirements

  • Must be able to work outside of typical Monday - Friday work hours to support weekend Outreach events as needed. Time off in lieu will be provided.
  • Must be able to work on Canada Day to support Town of Aurora Outreach event. Time off in lieu will be provided.
  • Ages 16 to 30 years old
  • Eligible to work in Canada (must possess a valid Social Insurance Number)
  • Hold a Residency Status; Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person with current and valid Refugee Status in Canada (as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).

As some funding sources require that recipients plan to return to an educational institution in September 2026, please indicate your intentions in your cover letter.


Not eligible

  • International students
  • Non-Canadian citizens holding Temporary Work Visas or awaiting Permanent Resident Status


Qualifications:

  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-C Certification (AED training an asset)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required (reimbursed with receipt);
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite for communicating with the Team, writing reports
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle required. The successful candidate will be reimbursed for mileage related to work tasks at a standard rate based on company policy.
