We are actively seeking one (1) Summer Art Yard Behaviour Management Specialist to guide the Summer Art Yard Team with the best behaviour management practices, inclusive children/youth programming, individual 1-on-1 camper behaviour support, and delivery of our visual arts-based summer camps for children/youth aged 4-12.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Summer Art Yard Supervisor to ensure all camp environments meet the needs of our campers by implementing behaviour management techniques and provide support to all camp staff to feel empowered to manage camper behaviours.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers and staff during camp hours by proactively taking mitigating actions, recommending adaptive programming, behavioural plans, and arrangement of appropriate support/further action (in coordination with Summer Art Yard Supervisor).
- Respond to inquiries and resolve escalated concerns from camp staff and parents/guardians, as well as behavioural crisis and emergency situations.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding behavioural updates, improvements, escalations, and incidents with diplomacy and tact
- Support Junior and Senior camp sites daily to ensure camps are following all Aurora Cultural Centre policies and procedures, as well as provide suggestions to improve the quality of our camp services and behaviour management techniques.
- Responsible for the collection and administrative organization of waivers, in-take forms and incident reports.
- Plan and coordinate camp programs through the preparation of Camp Binders and forms, delivering camp equipment on-site as needed, updating staff manuals and resources, and providing behaviour management strategies.
- Assist with the development and delivery of a training program for camp staff.
- Assist with the necessary research, development, and implementation of training for camp program adaptation.
- Create and distribute visual support tools and zones of regulation based on information provided by parents/guardians and camp staff, as well as observations during site visits.
- Assists with overseeing and supporting staff including scheduling, coaching, and performance reviews in coordination with Summer Art Yard Supervisor and Education team.
- Create behaviour management aids and tools such as fidget kits, sensory bins, first-then boards, visual schedules, token boards, etc.
- Collaborate with the Education Manager, team, and Cultural Centre core staff on summer outreach initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience Necessary
- Experience working with children and youth in recreational delivery settings including persons with disabilities and implementing/consulting others on behaviour management strategies.
- Ability to work in a team environment, collaborate with co-workers and deal courteously and effectively with staff, participants, parents/guardians and the general public.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, public relations, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, maintaining appropriate communication channels, safety, and trust within team.
- Highly observant to children/youth emotional needs and interpersonal relationship changes in the classroom, taking mitigating actions and applying corrective action in a timely manner.
- Ability to effectively and quickly direct the attention/focus of a cohort of up to 24 campers.
- Awareness of ethical considerations in art education such as inclusivity, cultural appropriation, self-expression, and sustainability.
- Experience with arts programming, education and administration considered an asset.
Conditions of Employment
- Monday-Friday daytime hours* (8:30am to 4:30pm) *with the exception of a few weekend outreach engagements identified at the start of the season.
- Camp programming runs nine (9) weeks of the summer.
- Camp employment concludes the Friday before Labour Day.
- Participation in the Aurora Cultural Centre’s exciting public events such as Canada Day and Street Fair Festival.
- Required to work outside in short durations in high heat environments.
- Light physical activity (lifting up to 50lbs).
- Sitting at desk for extended periods of time.
- Provide on-site support to camps.
- Must be able to meet set programming deadlines.
- Loud/high stimulus in camp studio environment.
- Work involves mental and visual concentration with frequent interruptions.
- High volume of social and interpersonal interaction required.
- Projection of voice and direction of attention required.
Requirements
- Aged between 16 and 30 years old.
- Eligible to work in Ontario (must possess a valid social insurance number).
- Hold a proper residency status, which includes being a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person with valid refugee status in Canada (as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).
As some funding sources require that recipients plan to return to an educational institution in September 2026, please indicate your intentions in your cover letter.
Not eligible
- International students.
- Non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in related discipline such as Social Work, Recreation and Leisure, Teaching, Behaviour Sciences, etc. Combined with progressive experience in recreation programming and/or equivalent combination.
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience (children/youth camp setting considered an asset).
- Emergency First Aid and CPR-C Certification (AED training an asset.)
- Vulnerable Sector Check required (reimbursed with receipt).
- High Five ‘Principles of Healthy Child Development’ required.
- Behaviour Management Systems, Safe Management or Non-violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification required.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite for creating program materials and reports, etc.
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle considered an asset.
- Full attendance at pre-camp training/onboarding.
Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Aurora Cultural Centre may offer opportunities for certification.
