Position Overview 

The Youth Soccer League Convenor & Skills Coach is responsible for the overall delivery and on-site execution of the Athlete Institute Soccer League (AISL). This role combines leadership, operations, and player development to ensure a structured, competitive, and positive experience for all participants. 

As the primary on-site representative of the league, the Convenor plays a critical role in maintaining program quality, managing game operations, and fostering strong relationships with athletes, parents, coaches, and staff. 

This role also includes leading skill development sessions, delivering high-quality soccer programming that supports athlete growth in a fun, engaging, and high-energy environment.


Schedule & Commitment 

  • League Schedule:
    • 9-week seasons, 3x per year
    • Summer - Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:30-9:00pm)
    • Fall/Winter - Mondays and Wednesdays (6:30-9:00pm)
  • Additional Opportunity — Skill Development Clinics
    • 6-8 week blocks, year-round


Key Responsibilities 

1. League Leadership & Customer Experience 

  • Serve as the primary on-site representative and “face of the league” 
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to athletes, parents, and spectators 
  • Address questions, concerns, and conflicts in a professional and timely manner 
  • Uphold league standards, culture, and values at all times—ensuring a positive development environment 


2. Game Day Operations & Equipment Management 

  • Oversee all aspects of game day execution 
  • Manage referees, staff, and volunteer coaches 
  • Ensure games run on schedule and adhere to league standards 
  • Step in to support operations when required 
  • Monitor gameplay to ensure sportsmanship, safety, and competitive balance 


3. Jersey & Equipment Management: 

  • Lead jersey distribution and ensure accurate assignment 
  • Confirm proper sizing for all participants 
  • Track and document discrepancies or shortages 
  • Communicate all outstanding needs to the Program Manager 
  • Ensure all equipment and field setups are ready for each session 


4. Staff & Volunteer Management 

  • Lead and support referees, coaches, and volunteers 
  • Ensure coaching standards align with league expectations and development goals 
  • Provide feedback and guidance to maintain a high-quality experience 
  • Foster a professional, accountable, and positive environment 


5. League Setup, Player Evaluation & Competitive Balance 

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to design and execute player evaluations 
  • Organize and run pre-season assessment sessions 
  • Evaluate athlete skill levels to create balanced teams 
  • Assist in structuring divisions for appropriate competition levels 
  • Monitor gameplay and adjust for competitive balance throughout the season 
  • Ensure alignment between evaluations, team structure, and development goals 


6. Player Development Programming (Skills Coach) 

  • Plan and deliver 20–30 minute skill sessions prior to games 
  • Lead small group and clinic-based training sessions 
  • Focus on core soccer fundamentals: Ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, and game awareness
  • Design age-appropriate and progressive training sessions 
  • Provide individualized feedback and support athlete development 
  • Create a high-energy, inclusive, and engaging training environment 
  • Reinforce teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence through structured instruction 


Assets (Not Mandatory) 

  • Background in kinesiology, physical literacy, or youth athletic development 
  • Experience applying long-term athlete development principles 
  • Soccer coaching certifications (e.g., Canada Soccer) 
  • Prior experience as a coach or program lead 


Key Skills & Qualifications 

  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability in fast-paced environments 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • In-depth understanding of soccer (playing, coaching, or officiating experience preferred) 
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously 
  • Experience working with youth athletes is an asset 
  • Familiarity with league management or scheduling software is an asset
