Employment Type: 5 Month Contract Immediately to June 30

Salary: $7,500 + Room & Board with additional opportunities to coach club, and skills clinics for additional income.

Position Summary

Orangeville Prep Basketball Academy is seeking a passionate and committed Assistant Coach & Skills Trainer for our Basketball Program. This role is ideal for a coach dedicated to developing high-performance athletes in a structured, elite prep environment. The successful candidate will support the Head Coach in all facets of the program while serving as a positive mentor to young student-athletes.

This is a residential position that includes room and board, allowing the coach to fully integrate into our academy environment and build meaningful relationships with players and staff. It also requires a high level of maturity and responsibility to oversee minors. Requires a Vulnerable Sectors Screen and G level drivers license.

Reporting to the Head Coach, Varsity Boys this role will also support cross-functional collaboration with the Manager, Admissions & Recruiting, Director of Athletics & other team Head Coaches, to ensure alignment in culture, training and communication within the entire Basketball Academy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and leading all practices, games, individual training sessions, film sessions, and strength & conditioning sessions
  • Support athlete development on and off the court through individualized coaching, mentorship, and academic accountability
  • Coordinate logistics for team travel, accommodation, and tournaments
  • Drive student-athletes to practices, games, and events (must hold a valid G driver’s license)
  • Participate in scouting, recruitment, and evaluation of prospective student-athletes, both domestically and internationally
  • Foster a high-performance culture built on accountability, teamwork, and respect
  • Support academic liaison efforts to ensure student-athletes are progressing toward post-secondary eligibility and success
  • Contribute to media content and social media storytelling to help raise program visibility
  • Provide residence supervision & accountability
  • Complete any and all duties as assigned by Head Coaches, Directors, Managers, CEO and President

Qualifications:

  • Prior coaching experience at the prep, club, collegiate, or high school level
  • Strong understanding of player development and the Canadian/North American basketball pathway
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Must hold a valid G driver’s license and be comfortable operating academy vehicles
  • Must have Vulnerable Sectors Screen to work with minors
  • Ability to live on campus and engage in a residential school environment
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to complete training
  • NCCP coaching certifications are an asset
