 Job Type:  Seasonal, full time (36.25 hours weekly)

 Job Location:  Father Lacombe Chapel on Mission Hill in St. Albert, Alberta

 Workdays:  5 days a week (36.25 hours), work schedule requires weekend work, holiday Mondays and occasional evenings. 


Do you have a passion for sharing history? Historical Interpreters are the heart of the Father Lacombe Chapel Provincial Historic Site by welcoming visitors, leading school programs, providing tours and demonstrating historic skills, you can bring Alberta's history to life.

As an historical interpreter you will provide tours of the historic site, lead school programs and offer guided interpretive experiences. You will participate in the planning, development and presentation of educational programs, special events, off-site public interpretive programs and craft and skill demonstrations and activities. This job will allow you to develop a wide variety of skills including public speaking, customer service, program development, interpretation techniques, research, social media and historical crafts and skills. 

Historical Interpreters at the Father Lacombe Chapel Provincial Historic Site are hired through a staffing contract with the Arts and Heritage Foundation of St. Albert.


Duties include:  

·       Lead educational and community programs.

·       Provide guided tours for drop in visitors.

·       Prepare materials for programs, craft, and skill demonstrations.

·       Plan and develop weekly drop-in activities for families.

·       Collection, organization, and reporting of visitor statistics.

·       Planning and prepping for special event days.

·       Participate in weekly team meetings.

·       Open and close the historic building daily.

·       Keep historic building and general site clean and safe for visitors and interpretive team.

 

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Education, Drama, Historical Interpretation, Canadian History, Aboriginal Studies and Recreation Administration. 
  •  A basic understanding of the history of Alberta, an interest in historical interpretation, as well as planning and organizational skills. Training is provided.
  • Be able to confidently speak and work with a range of audiences with varying backgrounds, from young children to seniors, in groups both large and small. 
  • Be able to communicate in conversational French.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a small workplace team. 
  • Be able to stand and walk for extended periods as well as lift and carry moderate loads.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Flexible and Adaptable.
