Seasonal Historic Interpreter - River Lot 24

St. Albert's Historic River Lots & Grain Elevators, part of the Arts and Heritage Foundation of St. Albert, is looking for people who are passionate about sharing history to join the seasonal interpretive team.

The Seasonal Historic Interpreter - River Lot 24 supports the mission of the Arts and Heritage Foundation, creating inclusive and exceptional arts and heritage experiences for our community, and works as part of the interpretive team leading pre-booked school & daycare programs, planning special events and drop-in activities, supporting pre-registered courses & providing informative, engaging tours of the heritage buildings and historic site.

In this position the interpreter will work to research and develop interpretive tools that relate to the Métis history of St. Albert. This includes providing informative and engaging tours of the Cunningham House and Belcourt House for visitors, leading Learning from the Land education programs for students K - 12 and developing interactive activities for programs and special events.

Seasonal position: April 28 - September 1, 2025

Job Type: Seasonal, full time (35 hours weekly)

Job Location: St. Albert's Historic River Lots & Grain Elevators

Workdays: 5 days a week, work schedule requires weekend work, holiday Mondays and occasional evenings

Duties include:

• Lead school, daycare, and day camp programs.
• Prepare program materials for school, daycare, and day camp programs.
• Plan and deliver weekly drop-in activities and update children’s activity centres monthly.
• Provide visitors with guided tours of the historic buildings onsite.
• Develop programming materials to support tours and enhance visitor experience
• Record and report daily visitation statistics. Monthly data gathering and reporting.
• Participate in daily and weekly team meetings.
• Assist the supervisory team in setting up for wedding ceremonies, birthday parties and other events. Provide customer support during the event.
• Assist supervisory team in setting up for community programs such as pre-registered courses for families & adults.
• Open and close the historic buildings daily (enabling security system, opening/closing blinds, daily clean-up).
• Encourage visitors to submit comment cards about their visit and passing along visitor feedback or concerns to supervisory team.
• Keep historic buildings and general site clean and safe for visitors, reporting any concerns to the supervisory team.
• Submit incident reports when required.
• Provide First Aid if necessary.
• Draft social media posts to submit to supervisory team.

Ideal candidate profile:

• Background or current studies: history, museum studies, education, Indigenous studies, anthropology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working with children and diverse audiences.
• Collaborative skills to work in a team environment.
• Computer skills required include knowledge of Microsoft Office, Dropbox, social media platforms such as Facebook & Instagram, basic digital photography skill and uploading of digital images
• Current Emergency First Aid/CPR certificate beneficial
• Language skills in French, Cree and/ or Michif are assets

This is a grant-funded position anticipated to last 18 weeks (pending grant funding approval). Candidates must be between 16 and 30 years of age and returning to full time post secondary education in the fall of 2025.
