Volunteer Opportunity: Evening Bread Pickup Driver
Help Feed 500+ Families Each Month
ANIDA Food Bank is seeking reliable and consistent volunteer drivers to pick up weekly bread donations from COBS Bread and deliver them to our food bank.
This is an essential, ongoing volunteer role that directly supports over 500 families we serve each month.
About the Opportunity
Each evening, COBS Bread generously donates their remaining freshly baked goods to local food security organizations. We are looking for responsible volunteers to receive these donations and transport them safely to the ANIDA Food Bank every Wednesday evening.
Pickup Location:
COBS Bread – Rutherford Marketplace
9342 Bathurst St, Unit 3, Vaughan, ON
Drop-Off Location:
ANIDA Food Bank
4401 Steeles Avenue West, Toronto, ON
The bakery is approximately 20-25 minutes from the food bank.
What You’ll Do
- Arrive at COBS Bread at the scheduled time (WINTER 6:50 pm, SUMMER 7:50pm )
- Work with other volunteers to package the baked goods
- Load bread into your vehicle
- Drive to ANIDA Food Bank
- Unload and bring donations inside
Please note: Staff will not be present at pickup. Volunteers are trusted to manage the collection process independently and deliver the donations safely to the food bank, where staff will be present upon arrival.
Volunteer Commitment
- Weekly evening availability (approx. 6:30-8:30)
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable working as part of a small team
- Able to lift and carry boxes/bags of bread
- Access to a vehicle with adequate trunk/storage space
We are building a small team of 3–4 volunteers to create a rotating schedule. Each week typically requires 2–3 volunteers and at least 2 vehicles.
This opportunity is well-suited for:
- Couples or roommates
- Families with older children
- Friends who want to volunteer together
Optional Opportunity
After unloading the bread, volunteers are welcome to stay and assist with packaging and preparing the food bank for the families we will serve the following day.
Why This Role Matters
Your consistency ensures that fresh bread reaches families facing food insecurity in our community. This is a tangible, hands-on way to make a weekly impact.
If you are dependable, community-minded, and able to commit to a recurring schedule, we would love to hear from you.
