Andersen LLP – Junior BI & Data Analyst - Contractor

The Role

 Andersen LLP is looking for a for a sharp, "Swiss Army Knife" Junior BI & Data Analyst to join our Vancouver office. This contract role (6-month term, 30 hours per week) is approximately 90% Data & Automation and 10% Light IT Support. You will be the primary architect for our Power BI reports while ensuring our small team remains tech-capable by assisting with basic hardware and software needs.

Key Responsibilities

Data & Analytics Responsibilities (90%)

·        Power BI Excellence: Build and maintain semantic models, visuals, and interactive reports. You should be comfortable with DAX fundamentals (CALCULATE, filter context, and iterators like SUMX).

·        Data Shaping: Use Power Query (M) for data merges, appends, and parameters, maintaining a performance-minded "star schema" design.

·        Automation & Integration: Build automated workflows via Power Automate (triggers, approvals, and error handling) and interact with REST APIs (JSON/OAuth) to pull data into our ecosystem.

·        SQL & Python: Write and validate basic SQL queries (JOIN/GROUP BY) and use Python scripting for data manipulation or API tasks.

Light IT & Office Support (5% – 10%)

·        Hardware Triage: Assist office staff with laptop setups, phone configurations, and peripheral (monitor/printer) troubleshooting.

·        M365 Management: Basic user permissions, Outlook/Teams/OneDrive troubleshooting, and ensuring MFA/Security hygiene is followed.

·        Network Triage: Help with basic Wi-Fi or connectivity issues as they arise in the office.

 Technical Requirements

·        Must-Have: Power BI Desktop, SQL Basics, and Python.

·        Must-Have: Experience with Power Automate/Flows.

·        Knowledge of: API authentication patterns and working with JSON.

·        Nice-to-Have: Azure knowledge, C# basics, and a general understanding of networking.

·        1 – 3 years of relevant experience.

1.     Have a Portfolio: Can show 1–2 dashboards with a documented data model and a clear "refresh story."

2.     Can Explain DAX Plainly: You can articulate how filter context works without using a textbook definition.

3.     Have a Debug Mindset: When something breaks (whether it’s a measure or a printer), your first instinct is to isolate, test, and document the solution.

4.     Communicate Clearly: You can translate a staff member's "this report looks weird" into a specific technical requirement.

Details

30 hours/week contract (4 days) with potential to transition to full-time after summer.

$35–$45/hour depending on experience.

Hybrid schedule: In-office Tuesday & Wednesday Vancouver office (required) plus one flexible in-office day (Vancouver or Burnaby office); fourth day remote.
