Job Title: Assessment Lead, NCIME (term position)

Location: Remote – Open to anywhere in Canada.

Reports To: CEO

Starting Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000


Job Summary:

As a member of the National Circle for Indigenous Medical Education’s (NCIME) Academic Team, the Assessment Lead plays a pivotal role in overseeing NCIME's assessment work. Reporting to the CEO, the Assessment Lead will work closely with the Executive Director Academic and Academic Advisory Council Chair to guide their work. They will advocate for and continue the process of co-developing new learner assessments that are representative of Indigenous healthcare needs. The incumbent will also act as the primary point of contact for Canadian medical schools, professional medical organizations and other third-party stakeholders who are implementing the NCIME’s assessment recommendations. The successful candidate will oversee all NCIME assessment activities and develop/deliver high-quality and scalable assessment processes, workflows and technologies to support credentialing for physicians. The Assessment Lead will ensure that credentialing assessments and the curricula on which they are based are delivered in line with Indigenous best assessment practice and policy, while managing and supporting a wide range of external stakeholders, including employers and governmental bodies.  


Role Responsibilities:

  • Plans and leads the implementation of NCIME assessment activities and initiatives;  
  • Attends in-person NCIME and/or partner organization assessment workshops, acting as the NCIME subject matter expert; 
  • Makes recommendations and participates in the development of assessment materials related to education and training at the UGME, PGME and CME levels; 
  • Supports the implementation of the NCIME’s assessment recommendations across medical schools and professional medical organizations;  
  •  Informs processes of proper collection and analysis of various assessment data, including interpretation, dissemination and appropriate use of results. Interprets assessment findings and prepares an annual assessment report to summarize such findings, with particular emphasis on the quality of the assessment efforts and findings that influence medical school and medical organization decision-making and policy development; 
  • Leads the development, organization, analysis and reporting of medical student, resident and physician learning outcomes and related activities to support planning activities;  
  • Promotes internal and external communication of assessment results; 
  • Provides strategic advice and consultation to leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of modifications and enhancements to existing medical education assessments; 
  • Willing to travel occasionally and work flexible hours to meet deadlines, as required; and 
  • Other duties as assigned. 


What you’ll need to be successful in the role (essential qualifications):·

  • Degree in Medicine and 5+ years of experience in medical education assessment (UGME, PGME, CPD) and/or research or experienced PhD medical educator with 5+ years in medical education assessment; 
  • Expertise in assessment, data analysis and educational outcomes; 
  • Excellent understanding of methods of analysis with grounding in both Indigenous and Western methods of teaching and learning 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse members of the medical education community;  
  • Demonstrated ability for effective organizational skills; 
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and prepare and present reports effectively; 
  • Knowledge of regional, national and specialized medical accreditation standards, practices and goals; 
  • Knowledge of medical student and resident outcomes assessment principles, methods and techniques;  
  • Knowledge and understanding of integrated program planning, development and administration; 
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills; 
  • Knowledge of medical data systems and definitions.

  • Bilingual in an Indigenous language 
  • Bilingual in English and French

Working Environment:

While fulfilling job responsibilities, this role requires flexibility to work in different environments, including a remote home office setup, occasional travel, and participation in in-person meetings. Due to these demands, the employee will typically engage in the following activities:

  • Extended periods of sitting, often at a computer workstation.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including the potential for occasional overtime, to meet project deadlines, especially when coordinating with different time zones or during travel.
